Apple says it’s tightening macOS ‘Full Disk Access’ controls due to new risks from AI agents

New macOS permission controls
Apple announced changes to the macOS "Full Disk Access" setting in a developer blog post. The permission gives applications access to user files, email, messages, and browsing history. Apple stated that developers use the permission in ways that put users at risk without their full understanding.
Apple said that autonomous AI agents increase the risks of broad data permissions. The company will require explicit user action to enable Full Disk Access for individual applications.
The change follows a report by Inc. columnist Jason Aten, who wrote that Meta's Muse AI agent read his private messages. Meta disputed the claim. Wired also reported a security flaw in the ChatGPT Mac application that allowed potential access to user data.
