Former Plaud exec raises $26M for AI app that listens to you in the background

By Pradhyuman,

Former Plaud executive Peter Mo has raised $26 million for an artificial intelligence startup named Ambi. Funding rounds were led by Luminous Ventures and Huaqin.

Ambi is releasing software for iPhones, Macs, and Apple Watch that runs in the background to capture audio context all day. The AI agent provides real-time suggestions during meetings based on user data, calendars, and web information.

The company plans to release a desktop app to store information from user workflows. Ambi is also building a dedicated hardware device that includes a screen, speaker, camera, and microphones.

The app raises privacy concerns regarding continuous data collection and lack of consent from third parties in recorded conversations. Peter Mo stated that ambient capture is off by default, recordings are not stored, and data is encrypted. He also noted that users must inform others when recording occurs.
