Relativity Networks raises $22 million to bring a faster kind of fiber to data centers
By Pradhyuman,
Relativity Networks raised $22 million in SAFE note funding from investors including Rhapsody Venture Partners and Bell Ventures Inc. The company also secured a $40 million follow-on order from an unnamed hyperscaler.
Relativity Networks builds hollow-core fiber. This technology transmits light through a vacuum chamber in the center of the line. Conventional fiber transmits light through fiber-optic glass. CEO Jason Eichenholz stated that the technology reduces signal travel time from roughly five microseconds to three and a half microseconds per kilometer.
Eichenholz said that data centers are distributing compute across multiple campuses to reach available power. The company plans to use the hollow-core fiber to connect these separate campuses so they can run as a single synchronized machine.
