Microsoft’s Satya Nadella says AI models need an ‘emergency brake’

By Pradhyuman,

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wrote in a post on X that the artificial intelligence industry needs to assess the trust architecture of AI models.

Nadella stated that users cannot treat super intelligence as a set of nested black boxes. He proposed separating the model from the harness that orchestrates its work and externalizing safeguards.

Nadella called for every meaningful model action to include tamper-proof human-readable evidence. He also said that systems must give an authorized person the ability to pause or shut down a model mid-task, comparing the mechanism to an emergency brake.
