Inherent releases faraday agent
Inherent, a London-based AI startup founded by Google DeepMind alumni, released an AI agent named Faraday. Inherent stated that Faraday outperformed Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.8 and OpenAI's GPT-5.5 at replicating the findings of published scientific papers. Faraday runs on Qwen 3.6, a model with 27 billion parameters.
Inherent cofounder Edward Hughes said that paper replication is a standard training exercise for PhD students. The company used reinforcement learning to train the agent. Inherent did not build a coding tool. The company had Faraday use OpenAI's GPT-5.5 Codex.
Inherent has 12 employees working in London. The company plans to increase its headcount to 25 workers by the end of the year. Hughes stated that the United Kingdom practice of garden leave limits hiring because it prevents departing employees from quickly joining rivals.
